Moving on Up

UCCN recently added two medium sized features. The first was alluded to in a previous post, and that is our twitter account.

There are three reasons the twitter account will update: We create or update a post on this site, a server or service is detected as being unavailable (and then available again), or if a staff member updates with a short message about what is happening in the main chat room. We may also use it for notifications when maintenance is occuring as an extra outlet for information.

The other is site-related, and it is called Friendly URLs. They say there are two kinds of URL that a site can use. There are those that are easy to read and remember, and the rest.

Since we implemented the new UCCN site, we’ve had page names like this: index.php?p=pagename. These all still work, so if you bookmarked them, they aren’t going to go away. But we now have pagename.html names as well. Not overly important, but it’s really nice to be able to type unitedchristianchat.net/chat.html and have the chat page show up.
