ChanServ

Chanserv is the network service used to register channels or rooms. Registering a channel requires a user to have a registered nickname and be identified to it successfully.

To register a channel you need to first be in the channel you wish to register (it cannot be registered already!) and be an operator in it. If you don't have an @ by your name, try rejoining the channel.

To join a channel, type /join #channelname (the # is important).

Once you are in the channel and have an @ symbol, the command to register it is "/chanserv register #[channel] [password] [description]"

We expect reasonable descriptions for all registered channels. The password is used so you can identify as a channel founder and make changes to the channel settings.

You should receive a message back from Chanserv telling you that it was either successful, or if it failed.

Now, having successfully registered your channel you can make changes to the settings and allow other registered users permission to become operators in your channel.

Be careful who you give access to! If you have never been a channel owner before, we recommend reading a little on the technical and ethical things you should know, starting with the New IRC Channel Operators Guide at IRCHelp.

For more information on what Chanserv can do for you and your channel, use "/chanserv help" or join our #help channel.
