Moving Forward
Yesterday, some staff discussed new ways in which the network can move forward, and last night some of these were acheived already.
The completed changes are as follows:
- All servers were rebuilt, and reconfigured with a similar configuration, to allow for a better chatting experience for all users across the network.
- Considerations were put in place for better failure management. This includes servers relinking faster, and in a better manner if any of the servers fail.
- Quit messages are now viewable again. Until last night, they were a mixture of self-advertising quit messages for all users.
For further details, see zEkE online.
Changes that have been considered and are pending final decisions by staff are:
- Setting up a “Safe” server, intended for young people, as well as anyone else wanting a more secure chatting experience. This would restrict which channels users could enter, and prevent private messaging, as well as sending/receiving files.
- Possibly permitting users under the age of 13 to connect and chat, pending the network being COPPA compliant for this. We are still investigating whether we would be able to do this, and what it may cost to fit the legal requirements for allowing users under the age of 13 on the network.
